This tea estate has been at the seat of invention, developed by the pioneer Col. Sir James Buckingham. Sir W.G Mckercher revolutionised tea manufacturing forever with his invention of the CTC machine in 1931, right here at Amgoorie

Situated on the southern bank of the river Brahmaputra, the garden has a common boundary with Nagaland. The garden's name comes from the word 'AAM' meaning 'mango' and 'GURI' meaning 'roots of the mango tree', as there were a lot of old Mango trees in the area. The two other divisions of Amgoorie are Tiru & Tiphook.

The new factory constructed in 2010 is one of the most modern, hygienic and environment- friendly factories in the food processing industry. The constant up gradation of planting materials with superior clones over the years, has given Amgoorie teas the status of being amongst the top CTC gardens in Assam with a quality that is sought after, both within the country and abroad.
