Harmutty Tea Garden is situated on the bank of the River Dikrong a tributary of the Brahmaputra. It lies 19 Km East of Tezpur and 37 Km West of North Lakhimpur. The garden boundaries are Arunachal Pradesh on the North, National Highway No.15 on the South, Dikrong River on the West and rolling paddy fields on the East.

The garden was founded in the year 1878. As per the local legend the garden derives its name from Queen Hiramati, wife of King Arimata whose kingdom is thought to have been in Lower Assam, his Capital being at “Baidargarh” near Betna in Kamrup. The burial mound of the Queen can still be seen in the Majh Bungalow Kitchen Garden.

The garden is blessed with picturesque tea area surrounded by natural forest all around and supported by quality clones like P126 & N436 and old seed jat for ideal orthodox manufacturing, over the years’ garden has established itself as top orthodox mark of Assam.
